As confirmed by the girl’s family, however, the 6-month-old recently contracted coronavirus and tested positive for COVID-19.

While the parents believe that Erin is strong enough to overcome yet another obstacle, they remain “upset” with people who choose to ignore lockdown orders and social distancing rules.

While her mother, 29-year-old Emma, was allowed to stay with her daughter at the hospital, the father, who was also exposed to the virus, was told to self-isolate at their home.

“People are still not taking this outbreak seriously and that upsets me. I take it personally. Even before we went into lockdown, when we went into a supermarket we were anxious because our daughter is susceptible to viruses. But people still don’t seem to have any concept of personal space,” Erin’s father said.

“There was a picture I’ve seen of a beach where there was an ice cream hut open with people queuing outside like it was a normal day. It horrifies me that people still are not sticking to the lockdown measures. It does upset both of us.”

Meanwhile, the girl’s mum pleaded with people to keep Erin in their prayers in a touching Facebook post.

“Please, please, please keep Erin in your prayers. We can’t lose her over this virus. She has battled through too much – we need her, she completes us,” she wrote.

Emma has also taken aim at those “who haven’t taken this virus serious” and suggested she hopes reading about Erin’s story will help change their mind.
