A baby with a life-threatening genetic disease has finally found a ‘miracle’ bone marrow donor.

Reign Miller-Hardy, who would die without the life-saving bone marrow transplant, will undergo the procedure next month after a week of chemotherapy.

A match was found after his family encouraged people to sign up to the stem cell register and donate blood.

According to Wales Online, Reign was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a condition that causes the immune system to attack healthy organs and tissues.

Fortunately, a ‘one in a million’ donor was found after the family’s huge public campaign.

Reign’s auntie, Lisa Evans, said the little boy has now been given a 75 to 85 percent chance of survival.

“We had confirmation that Reign had a 9/10 match on Friday [October 2], only two days after his birthday. His family couldn’t have asked for a more perfect birthday present,” Evans said.

“We as a family are obviously so happy, but it comes with caution and a lot of uncertainty.

“We know it’s going to be a long, worrying battle for Reign from this point, but we have every faith that our strong boy will continue fighting and get through this.”

Evans added: “We want to thank everyone who has signed up to the stem cell register, given blood and supported Reign through his journey so far. I would also like to express the importance of people who are eligible to donate blood or stem cell to still do so.

“We as a family are so lucky that Reign has found his miracle match, but there are still so many people who are still waiting for that all-important donor.”

Speaking about Reign’s current condition, Lisa said: “He’s stable but it only takes something as small as a common cold for him to go back to how he was.

“He’s in isolation at the moment, but he is being allowed out of the ward for half an hour a day. Because of all his platelet and blood transfusions it has boosted his immune system.”
