A cute baby elephant was caught on camera playing with water and enjoying his bath time at an elephant reserve in Thailand.
Shy at first, baby Fah Sai is seen carefully entering his bath before cheerfully splashing in the water while his carer is showering him with water at Phuket’s Elephant Retirement Park.
As the animal grows more self-assured, he realizes that water is his friend and begins to dive until fully submerged under water.
Elephant Retirement Park was created with the purpose to serve as a safe haven for elephants of different ages.
Founded by Adulwit Khamya, the elephant reserve is currently home to eight large mammals that are being looked after by professional carers committed to the well-being of animals.
While some elephants are well-cared for, the majority of giants in Thailand aren’t so lucky. In An Elephant Never Forgets documentary, Joe Keogh captured the harsh truth behind the treatment of elephants kept captive with the purpose of serving the tourism industry.
According to the reports, at least ¾ of elephants in Thailand are forced to live in unbearable conditions. They are commonly abused, mistreated, and forced to perform tricks or carry the tourists.
The Elephant Retirement Park, however, has strict policies in place to ensure the well-being of their animals.
“There is absolutely no riding, chaining or beating of any kind,” their website reads.
“The sole focus is to promote the well-being of retired elephants. Visitors and volunteers to the park can expect an enjoyable and rewarding experience working with the local Mahout people to care for these majestic symbols of strength and peace.”
