A 2-week-old baby tragically died in front of his parents after being hit by a car in Brownhills at around 4 pm.
A woman and a baby were pinned against a wall after a BMW swerved onto the pavement and hit the pram.
According to reports, the BMW was involved in another collision with another vehicle before crashing the stroller.
Reports say that the baby was being pushed along the sidewalk by his family. He was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries but doctors couldn’t save him.
One witness told the Sun Online that the baby’s parents were ‘hysterical’ after the crash.
“All I saw was a car that had pinned a baby in a buggy up a iron gate,” the witness said.
A relative suffered a minor shoulder injury.
The 34-year-old BMW driver fled the scene but he was arrested shortly after the incident.
Sergeant Mark Crozier said: “A baby has tragically died and we’ll be doing all we can to support his family during this deeply devastating time.
“We’re in the process of speaking to witnesses and establishing the circumstances around this collision.”
“I would ask anyone who was in the area, and has information which can assist our enquiries, to come forward,” Crozier continued.
“We understand the shock this will have caused but I would ask people not to speculate on what happened.”
The driver was taken into custody and will be questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
