Baby Girl Born With Hands Smaller Than A Coin Defied Odds After Months In Hospital

When Isabella Evans was born, her hands were smaller than a coin and her body was shorter than a pack of baby wipes.

She was delivered prematurely via emergency c-section after complications at only 24 weeks. She weighed only 12oz and was given only a five percent chance of survival.

But after multiple operations, parents Kym Brown and Ryan Evans have welcomed their ‘little fighter’ home.

“Realistically, she shouldn’t be here. There were so many times we could have lost her. But she never stopped fighting,” 25-year-old Brown said.

Miss Brown discovered she had pre-eclampsia when she was pregnant. A scan at 21 weeks showed that her unborn baby had stopped growing and her heart rate started dropping, prompting doctors to perform an emergency c-section.

Three weeks later, doctors found a hole in Isabella’s bowel and she underwent two surgeries in three months. She also had laser surgery on her eyes.

“We had prepared ourselves for the worst, so when we got the call to say the operation went well we were just in shock,” Miss Brown expressed.

“She wore her first vest at three months, and only then because it had shrunk in the wash at the hospital. It was smaller than my phone.”

The little fighter was eventually allowed home only a few days before Christmas. She now weighs 13lb 7 oz!

“She is crawling and starting to stand up, and has a great appetite. Her favourite is a cheese and avocado sandwich. She’s so happy, and has a smile for everyone she meets. It’s incredible how far she’s come,” Miss Brown added.
