Rodrigo, dubbed ‘the baby without a face’ by Portuguese media.

Marlene Simao and David Ribeiro claim that their obstetrician did not identify any deformities during four ultrasound scans. The infant suffered from some issues with his breathing but his condition continued to improve all the time.

The baby’s godmother Tania Contente told the local press that his parents are hopeful that their child will grow in strength as time goes by.

She said: “Rodrigo was no longer dependent on a team of experts at the hospital to continue living so he was allowed to go home.

“The offer was there for the baby to stay in hospital, but they wanted to take care of him at home.”

The first time when parents heard of Rodrigo’s condition was later into the pregnancy when they underwent a 5-D scan in another clinic. 5-D pregnancy scans let the parents see a realistic view of the baby while still in the utero, showing the child’s features compared to ultrasounds that show the outline of the foetus.

According to LadBible: ‘’The medic who performed the 5-D scan noticed the problems initially, but when Rodrigo’s mother confronted her obstetrician about the issue, she claims he told her that the 5-D scan wasn’t accurate and the baby was totally healthy.’’
