Britain has planned a reciprocal agreement with Australia which will provide them the much-needed relief after leaving the European Union.
The agreement will allow the Aussies to work, travel and settle in the United Kingdom without any kind of visa.
While many people oppose the British exit from the EU, the Australians support it as they will be benefited a lot in the aftermath of Brexit.
Speaking about the prospective deal, Liz Truss, UK’s International Trade Secretary, said the deal will enable British and Aussies to move and settle in the two countries easily.
Truss said: “We want a fully comprehensive trade deal that reflects our deep, ongoing relationship, the friendship between our two countries, the fact that Australians want to come and live and work in Britain, and Brits want to come and live and work in Australia.”
When asked if that indicates a visa-free program, Truss confirmed it, saying it will be ‘certainly something we will be looking at as part of our free trade negotiations.’
The UK will definitely be needing new trade deals once it leaves the EU in October, that’s why their Secretary for Trade has already started paying visits to various countries to ensure that everything goes smooth after Brexit.
“The reason that I have chosen to make Australia one of the first countries I have visited as trade secretary is because it is an absolute priority to get on with this trade deal,” said Truss.
“I would say months rather than years for it to be completed.”
The idea has also received appreciation by Simon Birmingham, Truss’ Australian counterpart. He said: “We also, as Secretary Truss rightly identified, see this as being a comprehensive and ambitious agreement.
“We see enormous opportunities in relation to the services sector, for enhanced cooperation in the UK.”
The two countries have been forging close relations for a long time. Before this reciprocal agreement, certain measures had also been taken in order to facilitate Aussies when they enter the UK.
In May, the British government announced that they will devise a system for people of Australia and New Zealand by which they would easily sail through lengthy Custom queues.
By using the ePassports provided to them, they will not even have a need to fill out any form.
The facility of bio-metric authentication has been introduced for Aussies when they return to their country but in the future, it will also be available to them when they visit the UK.
Children from age 12 to 17 would also be able to avail the facility if they are accompanied by an adult. However, individuals younger than that will have to follow the usual method.
