Farmer About To Take The Lives Of His 1200 Sheep But Got Emotional After Receiving A Last-Minute Donation From Strangers

An Australian farmer who was about to shoot his flock of 1200 sheep before they die out of hunger received a last-minute donation, resulting in saving them.

Les Jones, from New South Wales’ Goolhi, said that mass shooting was his only option after his land dried out due to lack of water unable to produce any vegetation. He wasn’t in the financial status of buying food for his flock, and as the sheep were too weak, they were unsellable.

After 10 of his sheep starved to death, he made a public appeal asking for help. And on Saturday, he received a truckload of feed from Lions Club Need for Feed Disaster Relief, a Victorian-based trust.

New South Wales saw the worst drought in the past three decades and people from all over the country made donations to the farmer who was crippled by the worst drought.

Laura, Les’ wife wept with relief and was overwhelmed by the outgoing support.

Brian Egan, Farming Charity Aussie Helpers founder and a close friend with the Jones family, said that donations were the difference between life and death.

Les is happy about the fact that he won’t have to shoot his sheep. Brian said that they would have three road trains of barley for the farmers of Goolhi in the next ten days and the donations will help them buy increasingly scarce hay and grain.
