Australia is going to face an Antarctic blast today which is set to bring freezing temperatures, heavy rain and gale-force winds in many of its areas.
The weather warnings are issued across Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and parts of NSW.
The forecast shows cold fronts sweeping over South-eastern states which might bring damaging winds, snow, hail and rain for the next 36 hours in some areas.
Winds averaging 50 to 70 kmph is expected to hit the area while the areas in the southern coastal district will face gusts over 90 kmph.
Drivers in Adelaide have been issued warnings to drive safely due to debris over the roads and reduced visibility in heavy showers.
Another stronger cold front bringing more rain is expected to hit the southeast on Friday and Saturday.
It is also forecast that Western Tasmania will receive 150 mm of rainfall and snow or fail in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. High alpine areas, above 1700 m, in New South Wales can face severe snowstorms from Wednesday evening.
The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that the back-country travel should be postponed until the weather conditions improve, based on the recommendations by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
It also cautioned that Tasmania might face strong north to north-westerly winds on Wednesday night.
Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said that both Victoria and Tasmania will face equally freezing temperatures. She also added that Hobart will be the wettest state with a minimum temperature of 4C and maximum, 15C.
While Sydney and Melbourne are supposed to face winds at 50kmph and 45 kmph respectively, the capital Canberra will face freezing temperature, the maximum being 12C and the minimum at -4C.
Although Melbourne will experience 16C and rainfall, it would be less brutal than that of Hobart. However, Brisbane and Perth will shine through with sunshine and temperatures above 20C.
