Attorney Thomas Plunkett, the representative of J.
Alexander Kueng, has called for the trial of his client to be transferred to a different county due to alleged harassment that he and his client had been subjected to outside the courthouse.
As Plunkett insisted, all four defendants that have been charged in George Floyd’s killing “were harassed upon arrival and departure from the courthouse” along with their attorneys.
As the Star Tribune reported, the attorney claimed it was not safe for the trial to be held in Hennepin County due to “violent rioters” who reportedly harassed attorneys and their clients outside the courthouse at the time of their arrival and after their court appearance.point 449 | 1
According to Plunkett, “the Court simply cannot control the rioters and protesters who have taken to the streets of Minneapolis” whereas the defendants allegedly don’t have a chance at a fair trial in the county due to biased jurors influenced by the media.
Previously, attorneys representing the other three officers involved in Floyd’s death have called for the trial to be moved to a different place due to safety issues and an alleged biased jury pool in the county.
As Earl Gray, Thomas Lane’s attorney, claimed, he was threatened and punched after leaving the courthouse. “I will not be walking through something like that again. That was just insane,” he said.
According to Plunkett, the angry mob at one point surrounded Lane as he was walking towards his vehicle and physically assaulted him.
“No recognizable plan was in place in advance of the hearing to assure the safe and orderly entry of the attorneys and their clients,” he allegedly wrote.
“Mr. Chauvin, who is in custody, was subjected to a degree of humiliation by being paraded in public dressed in jail clothes and body armor.”
