Attorney of one of the police officers charged in connection with George Floyd’s death has spoken out and insisted he was going to show that “none of these guys … actually killed him” and that they were just “doing their jobs.

Earl Gray, the attorney of 37-year-old Thomas Lane, who has been charged with aiding and abetting the murder of George Floyd, previously stated that the man was responsible for his death due to overdosing on fentanyl during the fatal arrest.
Now, Gray insisted that his client and the other three officers charged in connection to Floyd’s death were just doing their jobs as he accused Floyd of killing himself.
“We are going to show that my client and the other cops were doing their jobs,” the attorney said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“None of these guys – even Chauvin – actually killed him. He killed himself.”
Previously this week, Gray filed a memorandum in which he claimed Floyd was responsible for his death due to swallowing a “lethal dose” of fentanyl during his arrest over reports of the use of a fake $20 bill.
According to Gray’s memo, a “white spot on the left side” of Floyd’s tongue suggests that the man swallowed “2 milligrams of fentanyl, a lethal dose,” sometime after officer Lane had approached him.
“All he had to do is sit in the police car, like every other defendant who is initially arrested. While attempting to avoid his arrest, all by himself, Mr Floyd overdosed on Fentanyl,” the memo reads.
“Given his intoxication level, breathing would have been difficult at best. Mr Floyd’s intentional failure to obey commands, coupled with his overdosing, contributed to his own death.”
According to the medical examiner’s report, as well as the report resulting from an independent autopsy, Floyd died from asphyxiation.
As the Hennepin County Medical Examiner previously noted, however, Floyd had hypertension and coronary art disease on top of being intoxicated with fentanyl at the time of the arrest – all of which are factors that could contribute to his death.
