A photo of an assistant principal laying on the ground with a student is spreading online and the story behind is more touching.
LJ is an eight-year-old from Marion, Ohio, is a student at Garfield Elementary school. The third-grader is an autistic boy and has Down syndrome. He is such a happy-go-lucky kid who always who tends to be one of the happiest and most outgoing children.
LJ’s mom Steph Compton told WCMH: “If he’s not smiling or laughing…which is most of the time, but there’s something really wrong.”
One day LJ got upset at school because the bus was running late to pick him up to go home. It is very natural to be upset as most of the children get excited to go back home after a long day in the classroom.
LJ who was sad decided to lay down on the ground to wait for his bus. A new Assistant Principal, Mr. Smith noticed the boy lying alone on the ground and he decided to give him company. He too lowered himself onto the concrete to make LJ feel better. According to WCMH, another Garfield employee named Amber Mckinniss clicked the picture of the scene.
LJ’s mom was simply impressed after seeing the photo as this act of kindness meant a lot to her.
She told the news outlet: ”It’s really awesome to know from a parent’s standpoint, that there are people that care that much about your child. To get down on the ground, and lay on the ground with them to make sure that they’re alright.”
Compton posted the photo on Facebook and wrote: ”I absolutely LOVE this… LJ’s school has a new assistant principal this year… Mr. Smith… apparently LJ was having a “moment” and he got down on his level to help him out ❤️ This is why even though we live across town… LJ still goes to Garfield!”
Social media users were also blown away with this small yet sweet act of kindness and many people said that they actually know the assistant principal personally he is an outstanding educator.
One wrote: ”Mr. Smith has always been one of my favorite teachers. always talked to me whenever things got tough !! best teacher/human!!”
Amber who snapped the photo also left the comment writing, ”I just had to snap a picture. It was the most amazing thing I’ve seen! our hearts melted and LJ enjoyed it lol.”
This small act of kindness was enough to let everyone know that even little things we do for others can make a big difference.
