43-year-old Tony Hornecker moved in the garage 15 years ago and began working on it. He said he first wanted to build a New York-style loft apartment but to this day, he is changing up the theme.

He told Barcroft TV: “It was a big and dirty blank space. I remember walking down here one October evening and seeing this roller-shutter door half kind of pulled down and peering underneath and seeing this big space.”

“From Kylie Minogue’s glitter balls to all kinds of layers and layers and layers of objects. Still to this day I don’t think anyone can fail to not be moved by this space.”

Tony crawls through a tunnel-like entrance to get into his room. The staircase of his house is made of rickety chairs while he has his bathroom in an old wardrobe.

He said: “You come down this dark cobbled street and then you crawl into this sort of space that doesn’t look terribly interesting from the outside. And then, all of a sudden, you’re overwhelmed with things and lights and music and atmosphere.”

“There’s a lot of my childhood here, there’s a lot of things from my own family. It’s a project that’s been going on for 15 years and doesn’t really end.”

Tony loves to redecorate his house and make refreshing changes every now and then. His previous work has been displayed at The Royal College of Art and The Royal Opera House but his favourite is the one he has created at his home.
