New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed she barely escaped assassination during the assault on the US Capitol last week.
As the congresswoman expressed on Instagram Live, she thought she was going to die after rioters broke into the Capitol while a joint session of Congress was in progress.
“I did not know if I was going to make it to the end of that day alive,” AOC recalled.
“I didn’t even feel safe going to that extraction point because there were QAnon and white supremacist members of Congress who I felt would disclose my location and create opportunities to allow me to be hurt.”
As the congresswoman said, she couldn’t even feel safe “around other members of Congress.”
According to the reports, the rioters were able to breach the Senate chamber after lawmakers had been successfully evacuated.
“It is not an exaggeration to say that many, many members of the House were nearly assassinated. It’s just not an exaggeration to say that at all. We were very lucky that things happened within certain minutes. That allowed members to escape the gap, the House floor unharmed,” AOC added.
“But many of us merely narrowly escaped death. And it’s also extremely traumatizing.”
Continuing, the New Yorker added she believes some of the police officers inside the Capitol were on the rioters’ side. She, however, also praised those who put their lives on the line to protect the people and attempt to keep the attackers at bay.
