House Party and Friday star Anthony Johnson has passed away at the age of 55.
The actor was best known for his comedic roles in the movies Friday (1995) and House Party (1990). He also had a successful career as a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, the cause of death hasn’t been released.
Johnson’s representative reached out to the site after it was announced that he had passed away.
The rep said: “Our BH Talent family is saddened about the loss of an amazing iconic legend in comedy, our client and friend Anthony “AJ” Johnson.
“We are praying for all those that were touched by his comedy, acting, but most of all his life. We are especially praying for his beloved Wife, Children, Siblings and Manager.”
It was in 1990 when Johnson rose to fame after he starred in the House Party which also featured hi hop duo Kid ‘n Play.
Daryl ‘Chill’ Mitchell, Martin Lawrence, John Witherspoon, Kelly Jo Minter, and Tisha Campbell were also in the movie, which was about a wild house party with a pretty woman and popular DJ.
Johnson’s representative also told CNN in a statement: “The world of Comedy has truly been shaken, again. Our BH Talent family is heartbroken about the loss of the iconic legend of stage and screen Mr. Anthony “AJ” Johnson.”
“He has left with us amazing memories of his laughter, dynamic acting skills, but most of all his enormous personality and heart of gold,” the representative added.
Johnson’s Friday co-star Ice Cub took to Twitter and paid tribute, writing: “ad to wake up to the news about AJ Johnson passing away. Naturally funny dude who was straight outta Compton at the same time. Sorry I couldn’t bring your character Ezal back to the big screen in Last Friday…”
