Annual Halloween Parade CANCELED This Year After Striking Concerns Relating To ‘Marginalizing’ Students Of Color


The month of October in the US finds so many people gearing up for the annual Halloween parade but this year, things might be a little different at one school in Seattle.

According to local media reports, Seattle’s Benjamin Franklin Day Elementary School which is located in the popular Fremont neighborhood will no longer be going ahead with its plans to conduct the annual Halloween parade.

Surprising so many with the sudden decision, the school was quick to standby its claims on how it felt the even marginalized students of color and that was not something they’d like to promote anymore.

“There are so many students who do not celebrate the holiday and we believe it marginalizes them,” the school announced via a public statement to the press.

The event which is renowned as the famous ‘Pumpkin Parade’ will no longer be held this year. And it’s usually an occasion that sees so many students dressing up in Halloween costumes and parading around the vicinity.

Meanwhile, local media reports went on to speak about how the startling decision was recently put forward by the Racial Equity Team located at the school, after a discussion that spanned nearly five years!

“There are so many events held in the community as well as the neighborhood and that’s where students may come together with their families and celebrate Halloween there,” a spokesperson for the school recently announced. But they backed up their decision to avoid this year’s parade.

“It’s just one of those events that we feel so strongly about in terms of marginalization all those students of color who don’t celebrate the occasion,” she went on to add.

The spokesperson also shed light on how so many of these students have come forward and requested their isolation from such events taking place on campus.
