Animal Research Center Facing Backlash After Leaked Footage Emerged

Animal rights activists have lashed out at a research center after obtaining footage of researchers fitting ‘windows’ in the stomachs of cows for easier access and inspection.

Following the discovery, the L214 group lashed out at the French research center and filed a complaint on the basis that the cows are being abused in the process of being fitted the specially designed windows.

In the footage, the researchers were seen performing a ‘rumen fistula,’ a procedure during which an animal, who is under the effect of local anesthetic, is implanted a ‘window’ that allows researchers to see and access the insides of the animal’s stomach.

While the process may appear inhumane to some, the experts have reassured the people that the procedure doesn’t hurt the animals and that they are in no pain because of the windows.

Nevertheless, the activists lashed out at the research center and claimed the procedure is bad for the health of the animals.

“We obtained the images after a whistleblower who works there contacted us to alert us to the conditions there. We cannot reveal their identity because we have to protect them,” Barbara Boyer, L214 spokesperson, confirmed.

“We have filed a complaint with the authorities this morning. There are also chickens at the center that are so fat that they cannot even walk anymore, as well as very sick pigs, calves and rabbits that are trapped in tiny cages.”

As Nagui went on to claim, other animals in the research facility have no better fate than the cows.

“For Sanders, these cows are just milk-producing machines that need to have their settings optimized. Today, dairy cows produce on average 27 liters of milk a day, which is five times the daily requirements of a calf,” the activist added.

“The pigs only have cold metal as their environment. The rabbits are prisoners in their small cages and they will know only these cages their whole lives. They will never get out.

“And the chickens, which are from fast-growing strains, are fed with a too rich diet and their weight is pushed to the extreme. They can barely walk.”
