An outraged aunt turned down her niece’s wedding invitation as her partner of two years was not invited to the ceremony.
She said that it would’ve been better if the couple did not invite her at all if they would not include her boyfriend.
The bride-to-be received the invitation card back from her Aunt Edith but instead of only marking whether she could make it or not, the furious aunt had left an angry message that divided the internet.
“Most rude and hurtful,” the aunt wrote on the card. She also included her partner’s name next to hers – something she believes the couple should’ve done.
“Family shouldn’t separate family,” she added. “You shouldn’t have sent one at all.”
The bride then explained that because of the pandemic restrictions, she couldn’t invite everyone, adding that she had nothing to do with her aunt’s boyfriend.
Most people sided with the couple, saying they should be allowed to give invitations to whoever they want to be a part of their big day.
“That‘s a quick way to quit being invited to family gatherings ever again. Yeesh, Aunt Edith,” one person said.
“The trash took itself out,” another wrote.
“Edith needs to harden up,” a third added.
Other people said it did not matter if it was wrong not to include ‘Uncle Danny’ as the reaction was just extreme.
One woman who didn’t want to take sides wrote: “It’s possible to think the couple was rude for not inviting a guest’s long-term partner while also thinking the aunt’s reaction was over the top.”
Many also agreed that partners of more than a year should be included in wedding invitations but they also acknowledged that coronavirus restrictions have changed everything.
“I think Covid makes a very big difference though. Without Covid, you should invite partners. With Covid, guests lists are very restricted,” one wrote.
