According to the results of a poll, the majority of Americans approve of President Donald Trump’s airstrike on the Iranian terror chief Qassem Soleimani.
Following the assassination of one of Iran’s most renowned military figures, leaders from all around the world have spoken out and urged the two countries to practice “restraint” in order to avoid a full-out war.
In addition, the majority of American people appear to approve of the airstrike whereas 43% of the Huffington Post/YouGov poll votes were in favor of the killing while 38% were against.
Meanwhile, 57% of asked Americans claimed they believe the assassination with result in escalated tensions between the two countries while only 8% said the act will serve as a warning to Iran not to take offensive actions against the U.S. and its people in the future.
While 86% of the Republicans backed Trump’s airstrike up, only 69% of Democrats voted they were against the killing of Soleimani.
Days ago, Trump has spoken out about the airstrike and defended the decision to put Soleimani out of the picture for good.
“We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war,” the POTUS said.
“Soleimani was plotting imminent and sinister attacks on American diplomats and military personnel, but we caught him in the act and terminated him.
“Under my leadership America’s policy is unambiguous to terrorists who harm or intend to harm any American. We will find you. We will eliminate you. We will always protect our diplomats, service members, all Americans and our allies.”
Trump has also warned Iran that any retaliatory strike on “any American” or American asset will result in the country getting hit “very fast and very hard.”
In response to Iran’s threats that they’ve identified 35 targets vital to the States, President Trump has warned the Iranian government that the U.S. has targeted 52 points vital to the country and that they are ready to strike back “in a disproportionate manner” if the Islamic Republic retaliates.
