Americans Are Crossing Southern Border To Buy Toilet Paper And Other Items In Mexico Amid Coronavirus Panic Buying


After finding US stores sold out of toilet paper and other essentials, Americans are crossing the southern border to buy items they need.

Pictures taken outside stores in Tijuana, south of the Mexican border, show shoppers waiting in lines with their empty carts.

According to WKBN 27, over 600 people were lined up early in the morning waiting to enter the store, and many of them have traveled from California.

In the US, California has become a coronavirus hotspot, with people emptying the shelves of cleaning products, toilet paper, and bottled water.

The shortage has sent many people south with some of them from Los Angeles driving three long hours to get to Tijuana.

One LA resident said to WKBN 27: “It’s tough for us to come down here to get things, but we’re going to try it.”

The resident said she had to drive one mile south to a Calimax supermarket, where she finally found an ample supply of rice, beans and water.

A resident from San Diego also said to WKBN 27 that he drove south and found a supermarket well socked with cleaning supplies.

“It’s still not very bad right now here, they have a lot of products, they’re not selling you more than four packages of anything, four is the maximum,” the resident said.

One internet user commented: “We are in crisis, cross the border for toilet paper, no passports or ID required. Open borders right Mexico, right Democrats?”

Another wrote: “My family lives in Los Angeles and has no problem getting supplies there.”

A third added: “Im so thankful for my 5 years in the Royal Marine Commandos as I can actually live without toilet paper!”
