Masses of passengers from Europe have been seen piling up at designated ‘funnel’ airports in America after the ban on travelers from European countries came into effect.
At 13 airports, returning Americans have reported waiting in lines for up to six hours before clearing the ‘screening’ stage and being allowed to advance.
Similar stories and pictures are being reported from major airports including John F. Kennedy International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Miami International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport.
Following the ban on travelers from nearly thirty European countries, Americans have been rushing to return home via designated funnel airports.
After the news has spread, people were quick to slam the officials for allowing hordes of passengers stay in such proximity for prolonged periods.
“Passengers stuck in long lines for immigration at @DFWAirport tell us there are no offers of hand sanitizer, gloves, or masks from U.S. Customs / Immigration. Travelers say they’ve had no screenings of temp yet and no one following #coronavirus protocols,” Jason Whitely shared in his Twitter post.
“DFW Airport passport control is over full. Thousands of travelers packed into the room for hours. Barely moving. Travelers from Europe being pulled out of line and taken… somewhere.
“It felt apocalyptic. We’ll all be sick in a week. I should add. Passport control asked no questions. Just scanned our passports and let us in. No screening of whatsoever coming from Mexico.”
According to the federal guidelines, green card holders and American citizens are allowed to return to the States from Europe despite the ban.
However, they have to undergo health screenings involving a series of questions about past travels and health conditions and enter the country at one of the designated airports.
After the pictures of clogged airports went viral, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called out President Trump and requested the government to take immediate action.
“President Donald J. Trump Vice President Mike Pence since this is the only communication medium you pay attention to – you need to do something NOW,” the governor wrote.
“To the frustrated people trying to get home, I have spoken with the mayor and our Senators and we are working together to get the federal government to act to solve this. We will do everything within our power to get relief. The federal government needs to get its s@#t together. NOW.”
