Dad With Alzheimer’s Can’t Remember, He ‘Comes Back’ Every Time He Sings With His Son


Certain songs bring back memories.

Whereas one song brings back memories of a painful heartbreak, another song reminds us of the precious moments that we had with our loved ones.

And these memories seem to hang on to us for a very long time.
In the video below, Simon “Mac” McDermott, 40, sings with his father, Ted McDermott, as he drives around the city.

While it is indeed a heartwarming video of the son and father duo doing their own version of a carpool karaoke, that’s not the most incredible part of the video.

As Simon reveals, his father, who was 79 when this was filmed, was actually diagnosed with Alzheimer’s back in 2013.point 156 | Even though the news came as a shock to the McDermott family, Simon had been trying to support his dad by encouraging his dad to keep singing for as long as he could.point 290 |

Even though Mc. McDermott unfortunately forgot several things about his life, the video shows that he still perfectly knows the song – Quando, Quando, Quando.

According to the BBC, Simon said that the reactions to the video has been amazing. Simon even said that people reached out to tell him that the carpool karaoke video brought them joy.

Simon now plans on posting more videos of his dad singing, and even might try to have his dad perform with a band.

And Simon didn’t simply post this carpool karaoke for fun, either.
It turns out that Simon specifically shared the video to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
And it worked out! Simon and Ted’s videos actually raised more than $30,000.

Michael Dent, director of fundraising at the society, wrote, “Alzheimer’s Society is extremely grateful for Simon’s fantastic fundraising achievements in honour of his father, Teddy Mac.”
