Air Force Lt.
Col. Betsy Schoeller has been slammed for saying U.S. soldier Vanessa Guillen deserved to be sexually assaulted as it is ‘the price of admission’ for women in the army.
Schoeller, now a senior lecturer at the University of Wisconsin, made the horrendous remarks on Facebook after another user shared an article about Guillen being murdered after telling her relatives she was being harassed by a superior and felt unsafe.
“You guys are kidding, right? Sexual harassment is the price of admission for women into the good ole boy club,” she wrote. “If you’re gonna cry like a snowflake about it, you’re gonna pay the price.”
Her remarks came only hours after Guillen’s family attorney shared information that the young soldier had been hammered to death in the armory room.
Schoeller’s post sparked outrage and a petition is also demanding the lecturer be fired from her job at the university.
One Facebook user wrote: “Incredible – I can’t believe what I’m reading. Where does she get off saying something like that?! This woman was bludgeoned, hacked up and buried in a shallow grave!”
Another wrote: “Gahhh so many swear words are flying around my head.”
A third said: “This is like the whole “girls can’t wear revealing clothing because men can’t control their urges” on a whole other level.”
Another veteran said Schoeller’s comments encourage harassment. “I spent literally half my career handling sexual assault/harassment charges for sailors,” they wrote.
“Leaders like her not only encourage harassment, they protect predators. This is not a mentality she left with her uniform. She brought it with her.”
