2-year-old PJ was born with a genetic disorder known as Treacher Collins. As his mother, Crystal Kouri, explained, the condition caused facial deformities and the loss of hearing in her son’s case.

While the Los Angeles-based Californian may not hear what others say, the boy is extremely progressive in learning sign language.

“PJ has Treacher Collins syndrome, like Auggie Pullman, the fictional character from the movie and book, Wonder,” Kouri said.

“Hearing him say and sign ‘I love you’ was as emotional and pivotal as the first time he signed ‘mama.’ I stopped right there in the supermarket to record him.”
