John Saxon, the popular and versatile actor whose career had spanned over six decades, passed away Saturday at the age of 83.
As his wife Gloria confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor, who was well-known for his appearances in the likes of Enter the Dragon, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Joe Kidd, succumbed to complications from pneumonia.
In the decades after kicking off his career in the 1950s, Saxon appeared in a wide variety of movies and TV shows and added over 200 appearances to his resume.
The actor’s film debut dates back to 1954 when he appeared in ‘It Should Happen To You’ alongside Peter Lawford, Judy Holliday, and Jack Lemon.
His first major appearance was in 1956 when he took on the role of a disturbed football star in the film The Unguarded Moment. In the same year, he also played in the comedy movie Rock, Pretty Baby.
In the following years, Saxon appeared in dozens of hits including Summer Love (1958), This Happy Feeling (1958), Cry Tough (1959), War Hunt (1962), Evil Eye (1963), Blood Beast From Outer Space (1965), and more.
In 1972, Saxon appeared in classic Western Joe Kidd alongside Clint Eastwood. In the following year, he also starred in Warner Bros.’ Enter the Dragon alongside Bruce Lee.
Among other major movie appearances, Saxon also played police officer Donald Thompson in the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
The legendary actor, who was married three times, is survived by wife Gloria and his son Antonio. May he rest in peace.
