Activists Mocked Pig Farmer And Wished Her Misfortune After She Was Forced To Close Down Her Business

A pig farmer has been facing vile comments from animal rights activists ever since she was forced to close down her business due to the drought.

As Bethany Paterson from South Australia explained, she and her husband, John Duka, had been taking care of their pig farm until drought brought their business to a rough end.

After closing the ranch due to increasing grain prices and pork meat imported at competitive prices, the couple took to Facebook to encourage Australians to buy quality domestic products even if they cost more.

Rather than encountering compassion or understanding, however, Bethany has been subjected to vile verbal abuse by militant vegans after sharing her story.

“Thank goodness times are changing and more people are waking up to the cruelty. So wish this lady was getting slaughtered instead. Glad this will be the last of the pigs you have murdered! No sympathy for you at all. What an ugly human you are inside and out!” one woman responded.

“Maybe if your business wasn’t built on murder, torture, slaughter, & rape, you wouldn’t have an issue,” another one added.

As Bethany admitted in an interview with ABC News, she was forced to hide at least 100 comments due to their disturbing content.

“I would have thought that during a difficult time, that even if you have different values to someone else you might be able to tune in to the humanity of the situation, that someone is struggling and that times are tough,” she added.

In her original Facebook post, the Patersons wrote:

“My parents built this piggery from the ground up over the past 40 years to a herd of 5000, but the last 18 months have proven to be the breaking point.

“The drought has caused extremely high grain prices, and an oversupply of pork [from overseas] has created incredibly low pork prices, the combination of the two has led to us making a loss on every pig sold, and thus has led to crippling and unsustainable losses.”
