A dog has been patiently waiting for his owner to return for three years after it was abandoned without realizing that its owner would most likely never come back.
The incident occurred in the city of Xi’an in China where the unfortunate pooch was left behind as an expat working in the country moved back to their home country.
Without making sure that the dog was looked after, the previous owner allegedly abandoned the pooch, which was later named Hei Zi, as they left the country.
As a local resident named Wang Huili explained in an interview with the reporters, she urged her community to help the dog after authorities threatened to catch it.
While some locals were allegedly scared of the dog roaming around freely, others opened up their hearts and treated the pooch as if it was their own.
“We would give meat or other food we bought to Hei Zi instead of our own dogs,” Ms. Wang told the Pear Video.
“Hei Zi has become a link between us neighbors, who otherwise would not speak to each other much.”
As another resident allegedly told Pear, the “dog is very loyal” whereas it has been waiting for three years since its owner abandoned it.
“[It] has never thought of leaving this estate or finding a new owner. It’s hoping that one day its owner would come back to get it,” she said.
According to the reports, the locals have set up a mini tent for the dog whereas animal lovers often visit the estate to bring food or watch over the pooch.
As the people in the video confirmed, the locals are also working on fixing the paperwork and getting the abandoned pooch a forever home.
