President Biden has managed to raise eyebrows after vowing to fight alongside his citizens should he have to go to war.
On Wednesday, the 46th US President addressed the working class during North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) Legislative Conference in Washington.
Speaking to the union members, Biden said Russia had failed in taking Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv and toppling its government.
While he insisted that the United States will continue to stand behind Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, the president warned that the war in Europe could rage on for years.
Earning cheers from the crowd, Biden then made a slightly confusing statement as he vowed to fight if he has got to go to war.
“And I just want you to know that – and by the way, if I got to go to war, I’m going with you guys,” Biden said.
During his address to the union members, Biden reacted to heartbreaking photos showing the bodies of Ukrainian civilians “dumped into mass graves” with “hands tied behind the backs.”
“Sense of brutality and humanity left for all the world to see, unapologetically. There’s nothing less happening than major war crimes,” he added in another jab at Russia’s Putin who denies war crimes and refuses to call the war and invasion of Ukraine anything but a ‘special operation.’
Additionally, the president revealed that the US will continue imposing new sanctions against Russia to “keep raising economic costs and ratchet up the pain” for their government.
“We’re going to stifle Russia’s ability – it’s economy to grow for years to come,” he vowed.
