The United States issued a stern warning to Russia after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and attack on Europe’s biggest nuclear plant.
Yesterday, concerning reports about Russian tanks firing at the nuclear plant in Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine, emerged after parts of the complex that is home to six nuclear reactors caught fire.
Following the imminent threat of a nuclear disaster, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Putin and Kremlin that Americans are ready to “defend every inch” of NATO territory in case of a Russian attack.
“Ours is a defensive alliance. We seek no conflict. But if conflict comes to us we are ready for it and we will defend every inch of NATO territory,” Blinken said.
“And overnight, we’ve also seen reports about the attack against a nuclear power plant. This just demonstrates the recklessness of this war and the importance of ending it and the importance of Russia withdrawing all its troops and engaging in good faith in diplomatic efforts.”
The news comes after concerning live feed from the Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant complex showed parts of the facility on fire.
According to the reports, the fire burned for several hours before Russian troops occupying the area finally allowed emergency crews to extinguish it and prevent a potential disaster.
While Putin continues waging war on Ukraine and its independence, NATO began fortifying its eastern flank in Europe amid fears that Putin’s invasion will not stop at Ukraine and concerns that he wishes to reunite the former Soviet Union.
