A 53-year-old man has been arrested after he set a woman on fire as he discovered that she was in a relationship with his stepfather.
Luis Angel Quinonez from Florida became furious when he found out that the woman he liked was dating his stepdad.
According to the New York Post, he doused Angelica Costa Blanco with gasoline before setting her on fire.
He reportedly told cops that he was annoyed by the ‘romantic relationship’ of his stepdad Feliberto Alvarez as he was also in love with Ms. Blanco, 61.
Quinonez said to police that when he found out about their relationship, he rushed to a nearby petrol station and filled a container with gasoline.
He told the police that he was jealous of their sexual relationship as he also loved Ms. Blanco.
Officers said that the attacker had been drinking before he went back home. He then doused Ms. Blanco with fuel as she lay in bed and used a lighter to ignite her.
The interior of the house was also set alight, with piles of ash and windows melted in the residence.
According to reports, she had been living in the family’s home for years as she took care of Quinonez’s mother, who passed away more than a month ago.
Firefighters responded to the scene in Lantana and found the attacker holding a garden hose on the woman.
Ms. Blanco was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami where she received treatment for second and third-degree burns.
One neighbor, Donna Franco, told WPECT: “We all knew one day he was gonna snap. He’d be out in the yard in these speedo things playing the piano and grabbing himself, howling at cars. I was afraid of him”
The 53-year-old has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held in the Palm Beach County jail without bond.
