A 53-year-old man was shot by police after he killed his wife and son.
The horrifying incident occurred in Phoenix after cops responded to reports of domestic violence on October 25.
Paul Sarver’s unnamed neighbor called the police and told a dispatcher that the father had asked if he could borrow a gun.
The neighbor also said that the 53-year-old made threats that he was going to shoot himself.
Police then received a call from Sarver who told the operator: “We just need police bad.”
When asked if anyone was hurt, Sarver said: “What’s going on is really bad.”
One of the two officers who responded to the scene commanded Sarver to “stay down get that weapon down” after he emerged from behind a parked car in the driveway.
The father said he had a gun and pointed the object at the officers, who opened fire on him.
EMT’s arrived shortly but Sarver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers went inside Sarver’s home and found his wife Shannon Hursh and teen son Caden Sarver critically injured. They were rushed to a hospital in ‘extremely critical condition’ but the 46-year-old mother passed away only hours later.
13-year-old Caden died after several days.
His 11-year-old sister was unharmed but it is not clear if she witnessed the incident.
The couple’s neighbors were shocked about what happened. In an interview with Fox 10, Laurie Abels said: “We found out it was one of our neighbors going door to door looking for a gun. He did not come here, but he did go to some other neighbors saying he wanted to kill himself, that he hurt his wife and son.
“It just goes to show you don’t know what’s going on in other people’s houses. He must’ve had a lot of problems, I wish he would’ve reached out in a different way.”
Shannon Hursh’s close friends said Sarver struggled with mental health problems.
Lindsay Kennedy said of the mother: “She lived for her kids, and she lived to give them the happiest life that she could.”
