A police officer from Alabama has been arrested and charged with murder after he shot his estranged wife in the head.
46-year-old Jason McIntosh was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to murder.
It was in December 2019 when McIntosh reportedly dragged his estranged wife Megan Montgomery out of a bar where she was drinking with her friends.
He then drove her to a parking lot where he beat her up and shot her in the head.
According to reports, Megan complained to police that McIntosh was violent. She had also taken out a restraining order against him.
The pair tied the knot on February 2, 2018, but decided to separate only a year later after police rushed to their home to reports that the husband, who was still a cop at that time, had shot the woman in the arm.
McIntosh told officers that he and his wife were wrestling over the handgun when it fired.
He was placed on leave pending the result of the investigation but he resigned only two days later.
Megan declined to press charges against her estranged husband after investigators later determined that she had been the ‘aggressor’ in the dispute.
One month later, Megan obtained a restraining order against him as he was “harassing, annoying, assaulting, striking, hitting, intimidating, threatening, interfering with, telephoning or in any fashion harming or contacting” her.
In May, she officially started the process of filing for a divorce. Days after the filing, McIntosh was taken into custody again on a domestic violence charge.
Megan suffered red marks and scrapes all over her body but she refused to go to a hospital. McIntosh was then charged with third-degree domestic violence.
The divorce case was still active at the time of the fatal shooting, according to court records.
