This is a heartbreaking moment a child was found dead inside a running washing machine.
Authorities in New Zealand confirmed that the devastating incident occurred in Christchurch on Friday last week.
A spokesperson for the police said that the young child, who was in pre-school, was found in the front-loading washing machine.
The police spokesperson said: “One person was injured and taken to hospital where they later died. Police are making enquiries into the circumstances of the death and the coroner has been informed.”
The heartbroken community is now rallying around the family.
“This is a sadness that’s beyond talking about,” said Waihoro/Spreydon-Cashmere Community Board chairwoman Karolyn Potter.
According to Stuff, police officers are not treating the child’s death as suspicious.
Mourners gathered at the family’s home on Sunday to say their goodbyes to the child.
In 2019, a 3-year-old boy tragically died in a front-loading washing machine in Florida, USA. The child reportedly climbed inside while playing with a sibling when the door suddenly closed.
He got trapped inside and suffocated.
In 2010, a 10-day old baby girl died after her mother accidentally placed her in a top-loading washing machine.
In 2012, a toddler passed away in a hospital after he had fallen inside a washing machine where he tragically drowned.
One person commented: “What a tragedy. I don’t see how the washing machine was turned on when the baby was inside it. Unless someone turned it on not knowing or it was on a timer.”
Another wrote: “Always keep power turned off on non washing days and machine locked or blocked when using to prevent another angel going too soon.”
A third added: “What a damn nightmare. Poor family of the baby. May God comfort you.”
