A woman from Las Vegas allegedly set her dinner date’s apartment on fire and attempted to kill him after he showed up at a restaurant with only $5.
43-year-old Kimberly Marika Johnson has been arrested and faces charges of first-degree arson and attempted murder after she allegedly set an apartment on fire on October 11, 2020, at 5:30 am.
Johnson went to see a man for dinner at Jerry’s Nugget earlier in the morning, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
But during their dinner, she found out that he only had $5 in his pocket, and they had a heated argument, according to a North Las Vegas Fire Department investigator.
Johnson made her dinner date walk the 2.5 miles back to his home, the investigator said.
Twenty minutes after the man arrived at his flat, he “heard a splashing sound on the window and the front door,” the court document reads.
When he opened the door, Johnson immediately “ignited the gas vapors.” He then “slammed the burning front door shut.”
The fire investigator wrote in the report: “The front door and mat are fully engulfed in flames.”
Johnson reportedly used a wooden-handled hammer to break the window of the apartment.
The man claimed that she “threw her purse, which was on fire” through the broken window.
The arrest report said that the man said that Johnson was “high on crystal meth” and she had tried to “burn me down.”
Johnson is being held with a bail set at $5,000. She is scheduled to return in court on January 25.
