A proud father donned an Elsa costume to match his son’s favorite dress as the pair attended the premiere of Disney’s Frozen Musical in Australia.
Scott Stuart is a children’s author and a proud father who dared to challenge the norms as he wore a Disney princess dress to match the outfit of his son, Colin, who is “obsessed” with the movie Frozen.
While the dad was initially afraid of being judged for wearing a dress together with his son, he decided to go through with his plans to “change the conversation” revolving around gender stereotypes.
“I grew up in a strict family unit under very rigid gender stereotypes, and the fear of being judged by others has stuck with me,” Stuart admitted in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.
“By breaking a gender stereotype in public, I was, quite frankly, terribly scared and nervous.”
The Frozen Musical premiere wasn’t the first time the supportive father dressed up as Elsa. Previously, both he and his wife donned Frozen-inspired outfits as they went to see Frozen 2 in the cinema together with their son.
“When we were driving to the theatre, Colin kept saying ‘this is going to be so much fun’ and ‘we’re going to have a great time,’” Stuart added of his recent experience.
“It’s almost as if the roles had switched and he was supporting me this time – even though he didn’t know how nervous I was.”
Throughout the year, the father has been very vocal about the discussions surrounding gender stereotypes, whereas he believes the ‘rules’ they have resulted in are responsible for conflicts related to the gender scene.
“When someone comfortably breaks the ‘rules’ around masculinity or femininity, suddenly these rules are thrown into conflict,” Stuart explained.
“Rather than confronting or supporting, many people simple lash out in attempt to put the person back into the set of rules.”
