A woman delivered her baby at her home with the help of firefighters who were responding to her emergency call.
As reported by KTVU, California-based Patrice and her husband Donny Hogan Jr. were having a good time at the El Sobrante home of their relatives when they realized their baby was about to join them earlier than expected.
“The pain was just getting stronger and stronger. By the time they came, the contractions were two minutes apart. Never thought that it would happen this way,” Patrice Hogan said in an interview with KTVU.
Following the family’s 911 call, it took the local firefighters just minutes to arrive at the scene and assist the family in delivering the baby.
As firefighter Manuel Gali told the TV station, this was his first time to respond to a request for help in delivering a baby. Despite lacking experience in the area, he handled the situation like a pro.
“I clamped the umbilical cord. Brought father over. We got it crying. To experience that with the family. Watch their emotions. You can’t help but get wrapped up in it,” Gali told KTVU.
Following the successful delivery, the family showered the firefighters with gratitude. As they expressed, things could take a turn for the worse if they didn’t receive their help so swiftly.
“There’s really no words. They were just absolutely fantastic,” the baby’s grandmother, Barbara Whittam, expressed.
Congratulations to the couple!
