A Kentucky couple has been accused of torturing their 12-year-old adopted son.
The couple had locked him inside the bedroom with only one bucket to be used as a toilet and not even giving him food.
46-year-old Marvin Reynolds and 45-year-old Laura Reynolds of Logan County had been booked into Logan County Detention Centre after the local authorities had found proof that they were abusing their adopted son.
The investigation started on 14th April after the child ran away from the home and was later met by emergency personnel. The couple did not report the incident until three hours after the boy ran away.
Logan County Sheriff’s Department deputies soon learned that the child was allegedly living in horrific conditions with the Reynolds.
The allegations included unsanitary living conditions, abuse, and the boy being shut in his bedroom throughout the day with window nailed shut by a 2×4 wooden piece.
The brothers of the victim who were living in the same house confirmed with authorities that the child was locked in his own room and was only provided with a 5-gallon bucket to be used as a toilet.
They also noted that the child was starved and was only fed once a day. Multiple family members stepped forward to reveal that the adopted child was treated similar to an animal by the couple since he was adopted by them when he was 5-years-old.
Authorities who inspected the house of the couple found it to be clean except for their adopted son’s bedroom.
There, deputies had met with the stench of urine and feces and found that the bedroom’s window was boarded up. The floor was also heavily stained and there was no carpet on the floor as well.
Laura told deputies that they had secured the windows because the boy tried to break it and run away. They had removed the carpet because he had peed on it. And she also said that the boy’s bedroom could not be locked from outside.
However, Reynolds was charged with criminal abuse, unlawful imprisonment, and wanton engagement.
