A 25-year-old woman suffered 80% burns on her body after her father Jesse threw a cigarette butt from his car window near gas canisters that resulted in a gas explosion on August 17, 2009, in Venus, Texas.
Ana Pack was 14 at the time and suffered 80%burns on her body while her father died in the accident.
Ana, who had to undergo 36 surgeries, thought she would never find love and always hated her looks.
However, she is now a proud mother after finding the love of her life.
Ana has now opened about her story and told how it all happened.
She told FABULOUS: “My dad Jesse and I were on our way to an event at school in Texas where we lived. I was just about to join the school and the dance team I was on was giving a big display.
“The weekend before we’d been on a camping trip and we had a ton of rubbish and propane gas cannisters in the back of the truck. After dad had flicked his cigarette out of the car – just as he always did – I smelled burning.”
When she looked out of the window, she saw the truck burning. She told her father about it and he said: “It’s only small. But I’m going to pull over anyway.”
A few seconds later, there was a gas explosion and Ana’s life completely changed from that day.
She lost her father in the explosion and she suffered 80% burns on her body, including her face, neck, back, arms, thighs, stomach, and calves.
Ana and her father were rushed to the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas after the accident where her father died and Ana suffered a major cardiac arrest.
Ana nearly died and her mother Marinda was told to say goodbye.
However, she survived.
She avoided seeing herself in the mirror for a very long time. But, when she finally gathered the courage to see herself in the mirror, she broke down in tears and couldn’t recognize herself.
Due to her visual impairment, she attended Texas School for the Blind and graduated in June 2013.
She hated her looks and always thought she would never find love until she met Raymundo Valez in June 2016.
Ana said: “We met through mutual friends and from the start he was so attentive – I knew he could look past my scars and see the real me.”
They moved in together in October 2016 and the couple welcomed their son Aziah on February 24, 2020.
Ana says she is finally living the life she always wanted. Despite her struggles, she is happier than ever with her partner and her son.
She is also getting better day by day and will have more surgeries to make her hands function better.
