A devoted son nurses his father back to health after he was discharged from hospital to die.
The father, 81, had coronavirus and was admitted to General Hospital on March 26.
Doctors had lost hope on Suri’s recovery as he also had chronic obstructive pulmonary. Hospital officials had no other options but to discharge him.
Raj Nathwani, the son, was determined to treat his father to an extreme extent. He used a Google spreadsheet to monitor the vital signs and kept his house clean and hygienic. He kept Suri isolated from the rest of the family.
Raj used continuous airway pressure, which is called black boxes generally used to handle sleep apnoea. This machine helps in pumping air to mask, which is more gentle than a ventilator. He continued to use this technique with a view to improving his condition.
The virus has killed over 28,131 and affected 180,000 people across the UK. People who already have health issues are under high risk and are asked to self-isolate themselves.
Suri’s obstructive lung diseases put him in a severe condition and increased the chances of a virus attack.
Raj said that a senior consultant told him that it would not be a good idea to keep his father in the hospital as it would be risky to ventilate his weak lungs.
Patients are given a ventilator as a last resort to support their breathing. But this treatment is not beneficial for those who have damaged their airways.
Raj’s efforts didn’t get wasted as after a few weeks, Suri started to show signs of recovery. The doctors are still in shock regarding what has exactly saved Suri’s life. Raj believes that it is the sleep apnoea machine that was given to his father for 16 hours a day.
After the miraculous recovery of Suri, many hospitals have decided to use CPAP machines to pump oxygen for patients with lung disease.
