Hundreds of people defied social distancing orders as they gathered at a Chicago home to hold a massive party.
The event occurred in the West Side of Chicago where around one thousand partygoers allegedly attended a home party involving drinking and dancing.
As seen in the photos and videos from the party that emerged on social media, the home was entirely packed with people whereas some were standing just inches apart.
The defiant party took place as all gatherings consisting of more than ten people have been banned in an attempt to prevent the spreading of the novel coronavirus.
As one young attendee allegedly told the MTO News, “about 1,000 people [gathered] in the yard and in the house. It was really crowded and hot.”
The 23-year-old woman allegedly went on to say that she wasn’t worried about the virus at all.
“But if I didn’t have it before, I probably got it now. Oh well,” she added.
While the attendee insisted that people who joined the party didn’t have any worries about the virus, plenty of internet users were outraged after footage from the event went viral.
As some have said, there were clearly too many people in the house whereas the attendees didn’t abide by social distancing rules and preventative measures.
Others have also accused the partygoers of being selfish due to exposing themselves to a large crowd and potentially endangering other people.
“The carelessness/selfishness shown here, is going to hurt so many, and knowing that is so disheartening,” someone expressed on Twitter. “People are legit dying & from the looks of this, more deaths to come.”
