President Donald Trump made this comment at a press briefing discussing the findings of the Department of Homeland Security.
According to the reports, the direct sunlight and bleach can be used to kill the novel virus.
Following Trump’s comment, #Dettol was on top of the Twitter trend as the users started to joke about the comment made by the President. In fact, medical professionals also came forward and said that the statement is not scientifically backed.
Today, the Reckitt Benckiser, the parent company that manufactures Dettol and several other cleaning products released a clarification statement highlighting that consuming household cleaning products can be extremely harmful to humans.
The statement read that being a leading name in health and hygiene products; it is their responsibility to clarify that humans under no circumstance should consume or inject disinfectant products.
A bunch of officers from the US homeland security gathered at the White House for the news briefing. According to their reports, heat, sunlight, and disinfectant can be used to kill coronavirus in saliva or surface.
Donald Trump said that disinfectant could kill the virus in a minute, and then he was seen asking his officials whether or not there is a way they can do something with it.
He added that they could inject it inside to do a cleaning. However If it gets to the lungs, it can do a lot of tremendous harms to the organ.
He even suggested Dr. Deborah Birx talk to medical doctors to see whether they can apply heat and light to cure the virus.
He added that he is not a doctor, but he is a man with a good head and asked her if she was ever heard of treatment like that. To which Dr. Birx replied that she has not heard of it yet.
Medical experts, on the other hand, reveal that although light can kill the virus present on the surface, a patient cannot be treated by exposing him or her to the light. As of now, the USA has seen over 880,000 positive cases and 50,000 fatalities by COVID-19.
