Supermarkets now have introduced several new policies like cleaning trolleys between uses, limiting the number of individuals allowed in the store, and implementing the one-way system in the aisles.
Supermarket giant Asda is urging its customers to not touch anything they would not buy in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Its statement reads that there would also be directional barriers, clear signages, as well as floor marking to aid the customers in moving around the store easily while keeping a 2-meter distance from its colleagues and other customers.
It added that customers are allowed to bring their children and other family members to the stores but they are urged to keep the number low so that Asda can maintain the social distancing advice.
It has also asked its customers to touch objects only if they would buy it as well as use cashless payments wherever the customers can, to decrease contact.
Apart from this, there would be regular announcements on the Asda radio in the stores to remind all the customers about their duties and social distancing rules. They are also shutting off self-checkout to help their customers with this.
Aldi, on the other hand, has introduced sanitation stations along with telling customers they should refrain from touching trolleys unnecessarily.
Aldi said that the sanitation station is the place near the entrance of the store so that customers can easily disinfect their trolleys, hands, and baskets before shopping.
It added that the staff may ask customers to only touch trollers if they are planning to use them.
Lidl has also changed the policies and has eliminated tongs from the bakery sections and now sells pre-bagged items for the customers.
Sainsbury’s is asking only one adult from a household to shop at their stores. It added that doing so would help reduce queues to enter the stores and help maintain a safe distance between people in the store.
It noted that children would be allowed to enter with the adult if they could not be left home.
