In shocking yet happy news, a one-year-old baby girl has beaten COVID-19 even though she was born prematurely with chronic lung disease and a congenital heart defect.
Lincolnshire’s Coningsby’s, Leah Peters has spent much of her like in the hospital for treatment and operations.
Her parents admitted that they feared that it would be a huge struggle for their little daughter if she would contract coronavirus.
However, resilient Leah shocked her father and mother, Michael and Agata Peters, when she was discharged from the hospital just after the day she was tested positive for coronavirus. Now, the girl is being called a little fighter.
Leah was rushed to Pilgrim Hospital’s emergency department in Boston after she had low heart stats and developed a cough. She was born at only 32 weeks and 5 days and had underlying health conditions including a chronic lung disease since birth.
Mrs. Peters said that some weeks ago, they noticed that Leah had some cough but because she has two older sisters, four-year-old Natalie and five-year-old Emily, they assumed it was only cold or because of a bug. They were not that worried.
Due to Leah’s heart condition, a nurse visits her every week. It was the nurse who took Leah’s stats, which were a bit low, and as she had a cough, the nurse called an ambulance.
When Leah was taken to the emergency department, she was provided with oxygen, and then she started to get better.
The parents were later told that their little girl had tested positive for the disease. However, she was discharged only after one day of testing positive and has been doing well.
Mrs. Peters praised the NHS staff for treating Leah and added that they were extremely caring and sweet even after wearing personal protective equipment.
Leah is amongst the youngest patient in the U.K. to beat coronavirus. Her recovery has lifted the spirits of the medical staff.
