A young and hardworking child nurse has passed away prematurely after contracting the novel coronavirus at the age of 29.
Rebecca Mack, who was described by her friend as “an incredible nurse,” has died at an early age after helping “more people than most will in a lifetime” while working at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Paying a tribute to the child cancer nurse were her friends and colleagues who took to social media to thank Mack for her contributions.
“This is really hard. For anyone who doesn’t know, we lost our beautiful Rebecca Mack on Sunday to covid-19. She was 29 and she was one of my best friends,” Sarah Bredin-Kemp wrote in her Facebook post.
“… She was a devoted friend, an incredible nurse and a unapologetically imperfect person: She was the most accident-prone, stubborn, chatterbox with a bizarre catchphrase and inappropriate joke for every occasion.”
As Sarah went on to say, her best friend “worked hard and made her family proud every single day.”
“Please stay as safe as you possibly can and please please please make sure your friends know how much you love them. This nightmare isn’t over yet and it really shows that being low risk doesn’t mean you’re safe,” she concluded.
Paying a tribute to the young nurse were also dozens of other colleagues, friends, family members, and people whose children were allegedly treated at the hands of the 29-year-old.
“Becca was a specialist nurse who cared for my daughter at the RVI Hospital on the children’s cancer ward. A life taken far too soon and that of a selfless person dedicated to others. RIP Becca,” someone wrote on Twitter.
In an interview with The Sun, one father has also claimed Rebecca helped his daughter get through cancer treatment.
“Becca was a lovely girl always full of smiles and fun during a scary time for the kids having treatment. It’s so scary when it is someone you know. Heaven has just gained a real angel,” Keith Cowell told The Sun.
