A Royal Mail postman, from Boston, Lincolnshire, has begged homeowners to give delivery workers some time to step away before opening the door.
Ethan Gordon shared a message through Facebook where he urged homeowners not to open the door as soon as they see a delivery worker approaching the door amid coronavirus crisis.
The 30-year-old begged to maintain social distancing and not to open the door until the delivery workers step away.
Ethan shared a picture of himself on his Facebook with a message that read: “So I’m a Postie (and a dad, a husband, a son and an awesome friend!!) and would like to inform you of some important information. We deliver your parcels and letters every day.”
He said that delivery workers are keyworkers as they will be the ones delivering healthcare products, food, and medication if things get worse amid coronavirus outbreak.
He said: “All that is asked from the public is: Think about safety first, for yours and the postie.”
He then urged people not to open their front doors as soon as they see a delivery worker coming towards the door and give them some time to leave the parcels and letters to avoid making any contact with them.
He urged: “We will leave the parcel, food or medication on your doorstep and then knock. Give the postie enough time to step away from the door.”
He advised people who are already outside the house to go inside and don’t approach the delivery workers or make any contact with them.
He told if someone tells you to step back or close the door, don’t feel offended as delivery workers are only trying to prevent the spread of the virus.
He added: “Lastly, if you see us out and want to stop us to have a chat, feel free, it can be a lonely job. BUT, remember to stay at least 2 metres away from your postie. NO handshaking, fist bumps, high fives, and certainly no kisses on the cheeks.”
His post received an overwhelming response as the post has already received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, praising the postman.
After the post went viral, he said he feels great and he has achieved his purpose of raising awareness about maintaining social distancing and avoiding contact with anyone during this tough time.
