Last August, D’Adrien Anderson uploaded a video on social media.
The video showed him putting an ice cream tub back into a Walmart freezer, but he did it only after licking ice cream from it.
Many questions were raised on health and safety after the video was circulated on social media.
US media reports said, that the 24-year-old man has been fined USD 1,000 and also jailed for 30 days. It was reported by The Port Arthur News, that the video was taken down, but over 157,000 views were gained by it on Facebook.
This incident happened in Port Arthur on August 26. Port Arthur is a village in Australia, which is situated 145 km east of Houston.
ABC, US broadcaster, reported that the ice cream-licker and his father showed officers the receipt of the ice cream, as a proof that they bought it later.
Surveillance cameras of the outlet also captured him taking back the ice cream out from the freezer and buying it.
Even after all these proofs, the manufacturer of the ice cream replaced all the ice cream that was present in the freezer. This was done as a precaution and it cost USD 1,565 to the company.
The punishment given to Anderson was, unpaid work for 100 hours, a USD 1,000 fine, a suspended sentence for six months and he was also ordered to pay the ice cream company an amount of USD 1,565.
The report said, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanour criminal mischief, earlier this year, and his jail sentence of 30-days will begin immediately.
Who would have thought that a small social media stunt would have cost this much to this man in Texas. So, the next time you would do something for social media, remember this incident and don’t make any mistake like Anderson
