A 31-year-old woman, who married a 63-year-old man, says people mistake her husband for her daughter’s grandfather.
Emma Thomas and John Planas met in 2017 and felt an instant connection. But, Emma was hesitant at first due to their age gap.
She said: “It’s very funny how we met when I met him, I was going through a really hard time, so there would be times when I would just leave the house because I was so upset.”
“That day I was running away from the house, I was crying when John saw me and asked if I was OK, I just replied, “My baby’s dad is terrible to me” and he didn’t have a phone on him, so I went with him to find a phone. I just started crushing on him; this guy is adorable, he’s so sweet just randomly saving me out of nowhere. Then I was thinking, why did I get into his car? Grief does weird things to you.”
After a few months, they started dating each other and got married in April. The couple now has a three months old daughter named Anneliese.
The couple faced many struggles in the beginning. John’s sons were not ready to accept their relationship as they thought Emma was using their dad for his money.
Even Emma’s dad was not in favour of their relationship. But, the couple convinced everyone eventually and now they are happily together.
Their families have accepted their relationship but they sometimes have to deal with cruel comments and weird questions from strangers.
Emma says people often mistake John for their daughter’s granddad. The couple feels bad and sometimes, to avoid any more questions, they say, ‘YES’.
Despite this, the couple is very much in love and are happy together. They want people to accept their relationship because they don’t have any problem with it.
Emma says: “Love doesn’t discriminate. If you fall in love with someone, that’s the person you fall in love with; they could be old, young, fat, skinny, you can’t help it.”
