A Korean spa in New Jersey was recently ordered by the judge to allow all trans individuals who have not undergone genital surgery to get access to female-only areas after a biological male client ended up suing the establishment.
King Spa, which is present in Palisades Park, made the headlines and is now forced to implement gender identity-friendly practices and policies, sources confirmed.
This includes getting rid of sex-segregated facilities so people of any gender could make use of all the amenities inside the spa, even if their bodies don’t align with stereotypical identifications and expectations, as per a consent order reviewed.
The news comes after Alexandra Allie Goebert, who is a trans individual, filed a discrimination legal case against the spa in 2022 after visiting the location in August of that same year with a female pal. The spa is famous for being a wellness facility that requires nudity in certain areas, like male and female bathing areas, including tubs, pools, and showers, where swimsuits aren’t allowed.
It’s modeled on Jjimjilbang, which are segregated bath houses in Korea, and offers both monthly and day passes to those who visit and become customers.
But in that Garden State, trans people can use all the spas and the facilities that align with their gender without any questions asked.
