Several people were killed and dozens more injured after a powerful earthquake struck the crowded Bangladeshi capital on Friday.
The earthquake was recorded at 5.7 magnitude and it hit at about 10:38 am near the city of Narsingdi, which is 16 miles from the capital city of Dhaka.
City residents were seen crying in the streets after the natural calamity struck, as many rushed outside their residences. Buildings were seen swaying, and some makeshift structures fell down.
At least six people were killed in the country’s capital, and three more died from the collapse of a building’s roof and wall, while three pedestrians were also killed when the building’s railings fell on top of them in Dhaka.
Dramatic footage and images were shared online that showed the exact moment a live news program was interrupted after the quake struck.
Two terrified female presenters were seen frantically searching around as the tremors of the quake jolted the television studio. Other videos shared online through social media showed how cracks were formed in the ground and how buildings were left in a tilted state by the powerful tremors.
Rescue teams are currently on the go to help those areas massively impacted by the disaster.
