The release of an Alaska Airlines pilot from prison who tried to cut off the plane’s engine mid-flight is sparking massive outrage.
Source shared how he nearly killed 83 people on board, and is now receiving a light jail sentence that is literally nothing in many people’s eyes.
46-year-old Joseph Emerson was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release on Monday by the Federal Court. He did plead guilty previously to charges linked to interfering with the flight crew.
Sources shared how he tried to shut down a commercial flight’s engines mid-flight in 2023 as an off-duty pilot in the jump seat of the cockpit while en route to San Francisco.
After entering a plea in September, he dodged a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail. At this time, his lawyer spoke about how the pilot made a deal to take the responsibility for his actions, and this was in the hopes that he would further avoid any kind of time behind prison.
The father of two had taken psychedelic mushrooms, right before the incident arose, while he was on a trip with pals to remember his best friend Scott, who happened to be a pilot who passed away years ago. Shockingly, he still accepted the flight from Washington to San Francisco, despite not feeling well. The fact that he had been an alcoholic at the time of his flight is also raising eyebrows in terms of his licence.
